Graduate Teaching Asssistant 2005-2006
Introductory Methods of Applied Mathematics  ACM 95/100, Dr. Niles Pierce

During the fall and winter quarters of the 2005-2006 school year, I served as the teaching assistant for the Caltech Applied and Computational Mathematics department in the Introductory Methods of Applied Mathematics course. Currently, there are 8 teaching assistants and one head TA, Jon Othmer.

The teaching assistant are required to hold a one-hour recitation section and office hours to help students with assignments. I also respond via e-mail to students' requests.

My responsibilities include:
  • Holding a one-hour recitation section on Tuesdays 2-3pm in Downs 103
  • Holding office hours on Wednesday 3-4pm in Firestone 204
  • Grading weekly homework sets
  • Once every term we also grade one problem from the midterm or the final


Graduate Teaching Asssistant 2004-2005
Fluid Mechanics  Ae/APh/CE/ME 101, Dr. Dale Pullin

During the 2004-2005 school year I am the teaching assistant for the Caltech Aeronautics department in the graduate-level Fluid Mechanics course. It is a special priviledge to serve as a teaching assistant for Dr. Pullin and to work with the other teaching assistants in the course Jim Karnesky and Subash Pillai. It is also rewarding to work with the talented and enthusiastic Caltech students.

Currently, there are three Teaching Assistants for the class. We hold office hours weekly but we share the responsibility of writing solutions to assignments and grading. Therefore I get to write solutions and grade assignments every three assignments.

My responsibilities include:
  • Designing and maintaining the class website (local copy), website (Galcit Copy)
  • Grading homework and writing solutions
    • AE 101 a) SET # 2, #5, #8
  • Grading the Midterm (Problem 3) and Final (Problem 3)
  • Office hours are Wednesday 1-3pm
  • Lecturing when Dr. Pullin is away
    • Lecture Notes on Hyperbolic systems (AE 101,  10/2004, PDF)
